Meesha Shafi, a Pakistani singer, accused Ali Zafar, a fellow colleague actor- singer, of sexual harassment. The singer accused that Ali Zafar of sexually harassing her during the #ME TOO movement of 2018. She claimed that even after being an empowered woman she had been a victim of sexual misconduct. After Meesha, there were 8 other women who accused him of the same, after Meesha spoke about the misconduct.
Meesha also said that she feels betrayed by his behavior as they had been working together and shared the same stage. Meesha also tweeted, "Sharing this because I believe that by speaking out about my own experience of sexual harassment, I will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society. It is not easy to speak out.. but it is harder to stay silent. My conscience will not allow it anymore."
Ali Zafar disagreed to all the allegations charged against him and filed a defamation case against her and all the other women. Ali Zafar filed a defamation suit worth Rs 100 crore against Meesha Shafi at a district court claiming that the latter has damaged his reputation through her false allegations against him He has been fighting against it since 2018 and finally got the verdict from the Pakistani court.
Asad Jamal, Meesha's lawyer wrote on Twitter, "This is with ref to the fake news claiming that my client Meesha Shafi has been sentenced to 3 yrs. imprisonment. No such verdict has been passed by the trial court in the frivolous criminal defamation case instituted by Ali Zafar against several women.
Meesha Shafi has been attending the court proceedings through video conference.
